Set Google Maps as the Default Maps App with MapsOpener

Google Maps app has been welcomed with open arms by the iOS community. It took just a few days before it become the number 1 free app on the App Store. However, there’s a problem faced by everyone who is downloading this app. It’s not set to default, and every map link is still going to open on the stock maps app. However, there has been a solution released in the form of MapsOpener. It’s a jailbreak application that will open the maps links in the maps app by Google.

There won’t be any icon created on the Springboard after the app has been downloaded. After installation, the tweak is going to launch any maps link detecting from a browser in Google maps. However, any address links launched via Contacts app won’t present you with the location of that particular address. Apple Maps, on the other hand, are capable of doing so. Apart from this setback, it works allows you to plan route to go for any particular location.

To avoid distractions, you can place the Apple maps inside a particular folder. There are no issues, and it works well with Facebook as well. After you’ve selected the event to go to, it is going to redirect you to the Google Maps app.

So if you’re fed up with links being opened in the defaults map app, and want to give the creation by HASHBANG productions a try, go ahead to the BigBoss repository in the Cydia Store and download MapsOpener. It’s a free of charge to download. Let us know if you try it out and feel free to leave comments.

SMS Stats: The Ultimate Message Counter For Your iPhone

The iPhone doesn’t have any message counter that can be used to track the SMS usage with ease. This is inconvenient, as some of you would like to keep a check on the count. Cydia developers have released a new tweak called SMS Stats. This new jailbreak app plays the role of a message counter. Read on for more details.

Apart from showing the total number of sent and received messages, it also lists the ratio of SMS, usage of iMessage, and the most frequently used contact and messaging stats for conversations with different contacts in your address book.

After installation of the tweak, the ‘General’ tab will display stats for every iMessage or SMS sent from the phone. The stats are for total number of messages, messages sent from and messages received on the device. The counts are listed separately for SMS and iMessage, which allows you to keep a track of usage in case of a limited message package. Apart from these stats, it also displays a ‘Top Contact’, which is the contact you’re most frequently in touch with. Three fields are available for the top contact, displaying the number of texts sent and received to and from the contact.

The jailbreak app also offers a ‘Friends’ tab. This is a menu through which, you can manually choose the required number of contacts from the address book to track your correspondence stats with them.

The only drawback is that the stats are not updated in real-time, which means you’ll have to re-launch the application when you receive a message while within the app. SMS Stats can be downloaded from Cydia’s BigBoss repository for free. Let us know if you try it out.

iDebStore Beta Stage As Cydia Alternative?

There’s a new installer packages that surfaced with hints of getting labeled as the best Cydia alternative called iDebStore. We all know how Cydia has managed to stand the test of time on jailbreak tweaks. Developers tried to create apps that can surpass the Jay Freeman’s work. However, it’s been the most powerful alternative to the official Apple Store we have seen. Could iDebStore set the standard on installer packages?

The spirit of competition rises. Folks behind iDebStore are working on its beta stage. To set the standard on installer packages, iDebStore aims to provide fast and efficient web-based Cydia alternative. Throughout this info-tech/mobile age in iOS, people began seeing this advantage of cultivating a competitive mindset in order to create and innovate products that will suit the needs and preferences of users. It actually works and we benefit from the labor.

iDebStore Cydia Alternative

The freedom to tweak and enhance the stock features of the iOS device brings convenience and productivity. And while we get perks on free stuffs on Cydia, one of the concerns of a number of people is the monopoly in the jailbreak world. This monopoly provides no incentive to Saurik to introduce new features and improvements on packages.

Moving forward, the developer(s) behind iDebStore were inspired to create a web-based portal. They knew the extent of reloading and installing the packages via Cydia takes some time. And so in its closed beta stage, the site includes more than one thousand apps to try and free packages you can install from the default repositories as part of it.

According to the developers, the long-term plan of iDebStore is to eliminate the use of repositories with all the packages being hosted centrally. One of the selling points of the iDebStore is the speed. Of course fast installation is an A plus and the simplicity of its interface, say good-byes to backups and broken jailbreak installations.

The long term plans sound promising. Let’s wait and see.

Anti-Theft Lost Finder for iPhone and iPad (Jailbreak Required)

We found this new anti-theft jailbreak tweak that will give you a chance to get back your stolen or lost iOS device called iLostFinder. Developer iLostFinder created this tweak for us to have a chance to get back our precious device.

There was a surge of unbelief on my part when I saw this package on Cydia. However, when I read its package description, (probably I was 80% convinced)I installed the tweak to see how it will work.

iLostFinder Jailbreak Tweak Cydia

Of course, we all want to protect our devices as much as possible, even Apple’s stock feature on Settings to find our device is also an advantage for us, now that the age of GPS Technology has come.

Basically, iLostFinder jailbreak tweak works this way – when a thief tries to unlock your device with a wrong Passcode, (with the assumption that you have a passcode. If you don’t have one, say good-bye to your device) the tweak will take a photo of his face and send it directly to your email. How cool is that?

And you can hand over that photo to the Police to catch the thief. This tweak will also alert the thief with a message telling him to return your phone.

You can configure the options of iLostFinder on Settings app after installation. You can set the number of attempts for the Passcode unlock, add your email address to receive the thief’s photo and set an alert or warning message to return it to you.

Here are the screen shots of iLostFinder.

iLostFinder Jailbreak Tweak Cydia Settings

To unlock,

iLostFinder Jailbreak Tweak Cydia BigBoss Repo

You will receive an email with attachment of the thief’s photo.

iLostFinder Email

This tweak is applicable only if you use a Passcode to unlock your device. What’s more, this jailbreak tweak is FREE. You can download it on Cydia via BigBoss repository.

Above all, I give iLostFinder tweak 5 star-rating.

Share your thoughts about this tweak and LIKE it if you find it helpful.

Improve Notification Banner With CoverMeNot Jailbreak Tweak

Some users find the iOS Notification banner annoying. These alerts pop up whenever there are updates. While others have avoided such alerts by altering configurations in Settings app, iOS developer Ori Kadosh created this intrusive problem with his “CoverMeNot” jailbreak tweak.

Brand New Jailbreak Tweak CoverMeNot on Modmyi

There are variations of tweaks for Notification banners and personally when I installed this tweak, I find it very practical, especially when I’m in the middle of my drag racing game, CSR Racing. Basically, the CoverMeNot jailbreak tweak moves your current user interface down to give way to the notification banner without covering the important buttons or the pixels of the app you are currently using.

For those of you who can’t stand the intrusive alerts, you don’t need to turn of the alerts. This tweak will simply push down the app without any changes on the user interface. It’s very simple. If you’re not familiar how the Notification banner works, you can’t even tell the difference. It’s integrated into the system like the other iOS features.

Brand New Jailbreak Tweak CoverMeNot

BEFORE

Whenever there is an update or alert, the status bar will double in size. It doesn’t affect the pixels instead it pushes it below. CoverMeNot jailbreak tweak cannot be customized once it is installed in your device. There are no settings or options involved. If you want to add this tweak, just launch Cydia and tap Search, type in, “CoverMeNot.” You are required to respring your device after installation.

Brand New Jailbreak Tweak CoverMeNot ModMyi

AFTER

CoverMeNot simply works that way. There’s nothing remarkable on the tweak, but it’s worth downloading. Whenever the banner shows up, it appears and disappears with the same amount of time. Nothing more, nothing less.

Overall, I give this jailbreak tweak 5-stars rating.  CoverMeNot is available on ModMyi repository for FREE.

iMatte v5 HD – The apotheose

iMatte v5 Intro

Introduction

iMatte v5 HD will certainly be a theme remembered for a long time.  There is 5 months in the making (full-time work, I’m dedicated 100% to this, that is making the theme and supporting it).

I first made a complete version, with ColorKeyboard, SBSettings, etc, was going to do all the extensions I support, then I realized it wasn’t up to my expectations.

I threw everything I had to the garbage bin, and restarted from scratch, and here is the result.

How can I describe iMatte without having you read this for half an hour?  Impossible, so I’ll do my best!

If you enjoy and use iMatte, you can offer me a little coffee in order to keep me motivated to pursue my work! (If you don’t live in Sherbrooke, QC area, a little donation will do the same ;))

HackStore collects non-Mac App Store apps together

The Cydia store serves up apps to those with jailbroken iOS devices, but what about Mac users who don't want to use Apple's Mac App Store? Now, they have HackStore, a free app put together by Andrey Fedotov. HackStore is a collection of non-Mac App Store releases like Filezilla, GIMP, and Plex. Yes, you could just go to the various websites and download those apps for free, but why should those who don't want to play in Apple's walled garden miss out on a real App Store experience?

The drawback is that, just like Cydia, most of these apps haven't been sanctioned by Apple directly, so download and install these at your own risk. HackStore does allow those unwilling to be part of Apple's system to have a little system of their own. As Fedotov says, "This program for me is the epitome of Cydia for iOS, but on a Mac OS." Whatever doesn't fly in the official store, he'll happily put in this app. And no jailbreaking needed!

iTransmission 2 BitTorrent Client For iPhone / iPad

With the heavy restrictions on Apple’s App Store these days – particularly in respect of any type of file-sharing software – the chances of downloading a BitTorrent client are slim to non-existent.

Of course, users of jailbroken iPhones and iPads aren’t restricted to just one location to obtain software for their devices. Cydia, the alternative independent software store, has far fewer restrictions than Apple and for file-sharing fans that can only be good news.

According to a new report, the stalled development of the iTransmission BitTorrent client has now been given a kickstart by a dev known as iOSHomebrew. The tweak has reportedly undergone significant updates, is compatible with iOS 5.x, and is available for download from Cydia now.

“After installation, iTransmission 2 comes with a decent set of configurable options offering a lot of the functionality that you would see from a desktop client of a similar nature,” Redmond Pie reports.

iTransmisson2

“The ability to toggle a web interface on or off as well as being able to set the app up to download over Wi-Fi network, cellular data connection or both if required, which is obviously a feature to save high data costs.

“Users have the option to add downloads through a number of different methods meaning the tweak is extremely versatile and comes all packed into a very native, but attractive and simple to use user interface,” RP concludes.

iTransmission 2 is available from Cydia now and it costs absolutely nothing.

Here’s how to enable panoramic camera mode on your iPhone without jailbreaking

Yesterday, iOS hackers Conrad and Chpwn exposed the upcoming panorama mode in the iOS camera app that we previously revealed. While you can enable it a little easier by using the jailbreak tweak available on Cydia, for those of us who don’t jailbreak, Funky Space Monkey shows us how to do it. We followed the steps, and it works just fine!

1. Download iBackupBot

2. Backup your iPhone/iPod in iTunes

3. Open iBackupBot and find the backup, then load it.

4. Find Library/Preferences/com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist and open the file. (if your software isn’t registered you’ll have to press cancel and then it will open)

Continue after the break:

5. Add in the following code: <key>EnableFirebreak</key><string>YES</string>

6. Save your modifications, and then restore from backup from within iBackupbot.

Enjoy!

FireBreak Enables Hidden Panorama Mode in iOS 5 (Jailbreak Required)

Camera PanoramaThere is no shortage of Panorama apps in the App Store. It seems Apple also considers to bring Panorama mode to the built-in Camera app.

As reported by Macstories, an iPhone hacker Conrad Kramer has found the code for panorama functions buried within iOS 5. The feature is not officially released by Apple yet. However, by setting the key ‘EnableFirebreak’ to YES in com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist, jailbroken iPhone owner can take a sneak peek at the hidden panoramic photo-taking feature.

How to Enable Hidden Panoramic Photo Taking Feature

If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, you can either download FireBreak from Cydia or manually edit the property list file.

Using FireBreak
It’s pretty straight ward to enable panorama mode using FireBreak hack. Simply fire up Cydia, search for FireBreak and install the hack.

FireBreak Hack

The hack doesn’t introduce any new icon in the Home screen. But when you launch the Camera app and tap the “Option” button, you’ll notice the “Panorama” mode. In the Panorama mode, you can take a multiple shots in a single camera session “from left to right”.

Panorama Apps

We’re not sure when Apple will publicly release the Panoram feature to all iOS 5 users. However, you don’t have to wait for the release. There are already plenty of Panoramic Photo-Taking apps in the App Store. 360 Panorama, Pano and Microsoft’s Photosynth are great apps for taking panoramic photos. I think they’re much better than the hidden panorama feature. So don’t forget to check them out!

How do you take panoramic photos? Leave us comment and share the apps with us.
